So this past week I took my Jetta into the dealership for it's 85,000 mile service (keep in mind that the car is barely more than two years old). I was a big service to begin with and then they found out that my water pump was leaking and had to be replaced. $1,000 later I left the dealership and came home. Heather and I decided that it would be a good idea if we switched cars to minimize the mileage. We switched cars for a day then this morning we decided that we should trade one of them in, so that we could reduce our payments. I went into the dealership and was able to trade in the Civic and left with another Jetta. I had to give her a German name because that is where she came from. I came up with "Gretchen". She is a white '02 Jetta with low miles and the best part of all is that she is a stick! Both Heather and I have missed driving a stick so this will be a welcome change.

When Richard taught me how to drive a stick shift he said, "Real women drive sticks". I also miss those days, but was glad to have an automatic while I had no muscle strength. Gretchen is cute - and lower payments are a plus.
Congratulations on your new addition to the family.
gretchen works in perfectly with the high school theme of german car names (hans and fritz). glad i could be a reference. i'm still convinced that you guys only call me now because i'm home all day - i never used to get phone calls.
and i miss, miss, miss my stick. maybe someday.
p.s. everytime i go to your blog, i think "those two have amazingly blue eyes - their children are going to have great eyes." ha!
i like gretchen.. however i loved your civic.. but lower payments are good. ed yells at kip daily, i think our time to part with him may be soon:(
wish you would've called us first 'cuz we're turnin' Japanese (again) ASAP! My Audi needs a new alternator & Chris' '02 Jetta just got a new battery & trunk latch?! His stereo still doesn't work since battery died & both of our dashboards look like Christmas trees aglow with all of the warning lights?! I'm surprised we don't have to get our gas in Germany-ugh! sorry to rain on your parade, but that's been our experience! hope Gretchen is kinder to you...
